Abstrak

This study investigates Javanese language interference into Indonesian in the film Cocote Tonggo directed by Bayu Skak. The background of this research is the widespread bilingual practice in Indonesian society which often results in language interference, particularly in popular media such as film. The objective of this study is to describe the forms of interference, including lexical, phonological, morphological, and syntactic interference found in the dialogues of the film. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques on the characters’ dialogues, and analyzed using a data analysis guideline table. The results show that there are 39 instances of language interference, consisting of 7 lexical interferences, 5 phonological interferences, 16 morphological interferences, and 11 syntactic interferences. These interferences occur due to the bilingual background of the speakers, habitual use of the first language, and the influence of social and cultural contexts. This study concludes that language interference in the film reflects natural bilingual communication and represents the social and cultural identity of the characters. The findings are expected to contribute to sociolinguistic studies, especially in understanding language use in media and bilingual communities.
